Born and raised on a farm in the middle of nowhere Ohio, D. L. started writing in an effort to convince his mother that his writing class was a waste of time. Somehow, that managed to backfire and six years later, he published his debut novel, The Lion of Harmony.
An avid reader of fiction and poetry, D. L. has spent more time reading than doing most anything else. Either while on the road, on the couch, or under the covers with a flashlight, he has read most anything he could get his hands on, (and some he couldn’t).
From novels, to tabletop games, to short stories, to video games, if there is a story worth telling or hearing, he’s interested.
This is Scout, my late dog. Lost him to cancer in January of 2024, the day after his 7th birthday.
He was a Giant Alaskan Malamute, and the protector of my parent’s farm throughout my high school years and a little beyond.
As odd as it might seem, in a modern world, Scout often times reminded me of Buck from the novel The Call of the Wild by Jack London. He was fiercely loyal and had a wild side to him that I’ve never seen in another dog before then or since.
He got me through some rough times and is the only animal I’ve truly connected with.
So, since I had some extra space, I’m immortalizing him here.
